Spring time is almost here, its time to start thinking about perennial plot management and putting in those spring/summer food sources. Couple of things to keep in mind to help you more effectively feed your deer/turkey this spring:
1) Once the daytime temperatures get above 50F we can start spraying those clover plots with Nutri-Plot F&A to help increase our clover growth and nutrition for the wildlife.
2) If you need to spray your clover plots to kill cool season grasses, make sure to add Wildlife Synurgize to your herbicide tank mix. Synurgize is a water condtioner and surfactant that will help your herbicide absorb into the weed better, giving you a better kill. Nobody likes spraying their plots over and over to get rid of weeds, plus most herbicides are labeled for a maximum use rate per season. Adding Synurgize to your spray solution will give you a great weed kill, especially this early spring when temperatures are still cool.
3)If you looking to try something different this spring food plot season, it doesn't get much better than NP's Forage Ultra (one of Gene's favorites) providing your property with great whitetail cover and feeding those big bucks with some much needed protein in the spring and summer.
4) So far its been a wet early spring, so getting those spring plots planted this season could be a challenge. On the flipslide it could be a blessing in disguise, I like spreading out my planting dates of plots on the farm. By spreading out your planting dates you provide food plots with different maturing rates, this ensures that you'll have food available at different times of the year and you can hunt plots this fall accordingly. Great example corn, if you plant corn plots this spring, don't plant your patches all in the same day or weekend, spread them out, that way the deer will feed on the corn later in the season as it matures. Include some Fall Perfect around those corn plots and you've got a lethal combination for fall hunting.
5) Another tip for clover plots by spraying them early this season with Nutri-Plot F&A you'll benefit the turkey population on your property, not only does the fertilizer promote growth, which will attract those insects, it also stimulates seed production in the plant. Which just so happens to be another favorite food source of the wild turkey.
